Jantzen is a brand of swimwear established in 1916 by John A. Zehntbauer and Carl Jantzen, the founders of the Portland Knitting Company in Oregon in 1910. Both Zehntbauer and Jantzen were members of the Portland Rowing Club, and in 1913, the company was asked to provide a rowing suit for protection against the cold. The one-piece wool garment Carl Jantzen designed eventually became the prototype for the rib-stitch swimsuits that were first produced in 1915. Following WWI, the company began promoting the term “swimsuit” instead of “bathing suit” and introduced the slogan “The suit that changed bathing to swimming.”
In 1941 after Jantzen added sweaters, and active sportswear to its basic line, which is where my interest in this brand developed. I've collected Jantzen vintage posters advertising jumpers (sweaters), as well as Jantzen jumpers. While this poster is a little off brand for me, connects to vintage ski items I have which is why I bought it, off brand or not.
This poster is in very good condition. It has been stored flat.
