Vintage 1980's HEAD black jacket with dark possum fur trim and central zip from collar to waist. Two external pockets at the waist, and an internal breast pocket. The arms unzip and this jacket can be worn as a vest. I love a multifunctional item!
I love 'family' of jackets with a burning passion so hot that the coat becomes unnecessary in winter. So much so that I've named her Noelle.
The possum 'fur' fibre comes from New Zealand, where possums are an introduced species that are feral and damage the indigenous flora and fauna. The benefits of this for the NZ environment are:
- Possum fibre is hollow which makes it really light even when wet. A smart choice if you’re wearing it out in the elements!
- Is very silky! The texture of knitted possum fur is luxuriously soft, easy to wear and exceptionally comfortable.
- Will not freeze, even when exposed to periods of prolonged cold. The only other fibre on the planet known to have the same characteristic is polar bear fur.
- Is low-pill and anti static which means that each garment can be worn throughout the years and still look as new as the day it was purchased.
- Is odour-resistant
- Possum fibre is very popular but thanks to the constant growth in the pest’s population there is no need for breeding specifically for their fur. It’s a much more natural process this way.
Style like this comes only around every few decades. PS she has two big sisters, Giselle, in a full length coat and Brigette in iridescent Beige in the same short style!
