Original vintage 1967 Jantzen Swim Suit Company 'neige', or snow in french, advertising poster, signed by Ann Roussea.
This poster shows a lady in red jacket & black pants waving to someone while leaning on a ski pole. Gorgeous, bright and vibrant, the red jacket worn by the woman who is the focal point of this poster brings the poster to life and draw the eye. You feel like the woman is calling hello you personally.
Jantzen is a brand of swimwear established in 1916 by John A. Zehntbauer and Carl Jantzen, the founders of the Portland Knitting Company in Oregon in 1910. Both Zehntbauer and Jantzen were members of the Portland Rowing Club, and in 1913, the company was asked to provide a rowing suit for protection against the cold. The one-piece wool garment Carl Jantzen designed eventually became the prototype for the rib-stitch swimsuits that were first produced in 1915. Following WWI, the company began promoting the term “swimsuit” instead of “bathing suit” and introduced the slogan “The suit that changed bathing to swimming.”
In 1941 after Jantzen added sweaters, and active sportswear to its basic line, which is where my interest in this brand developed.
